Your Folk Listener Personality Type
Music recommendation algorithms know what you play. They don’t always know what moves you.
They sort us by vague ideas of “mood” and “genre.”
Producer-turned-neuroscientist Susan Rogers argues that each of us has a listener profile: a particular mix of musical pleasures our brains tend to seek out.
These dimensions help explain the music we fall in love with, and the music we skip.
So, to put the “Bespoke” into “Folk,” we’ve created a Folk Listener Typology based on three aesthetic dimensions:
- Tradition or Novelty: do you want music rooted in known forms, or music pushing toward something new?
- Construction / Authenticity: do you love deliberate craft, or music that feels direct and unguarded?
- Acoustic / Electronic: do you prefer embodied acoustic textures, or sounds shaped by technology?
Combine the three dimensions and you get eight Folk Listener Personality Types. Think Myers-Briggs, but for music taste.
It gives you better clues for finding the next album you fall in love with.
